The Castelldefels City Council has expressed its strongest condemnation of the seven misogynistic murders recorded during the month of July in Spain. The council has reaffirmed its commitment to using all means at its disposal to eradicate any form of violence against women.
The latest confirmed victim is a 34-year-old woman from the province of Barcelona, allegedly murdered by her partner on July 28. The victim had a son and a daughter under the age of 18, and according to authorities, there were no prior reports against the alleged aggressor.
With this case, there have now been seven women murdered by gender-based violence in July, a figure that once again highlights the seriousness of this social scourge. According to official data, there have been 32 misogynistic murders in Spain so far in 2026, and since 2003, when statistics began to be compiled, the figure has risen to 1,373.
The impact of these crimes also affects minors. During 2026, 22 children have been orphaned due to gender-based violence, and since 2013, the figure has reached 532.
The Castelldefels City Council reminds us that gender-based violence is a violation of human rights and an attack on the freedom and dignity of individuals, as stated in Law 5/2008, of April 24, regarding women's right to eradicate gender-based violence.

The 016 hotline is available to all victims of gender-based violence 24 hours a day and in 51 languages. It does not leave a trace on the bill, but it is recommended to delete it from the mobile call log. Minors can call the ANAR Foundation (900 20 20 10), and anyone witnessing an assault should call 112.
In Castelldefels, the SIAD (Information and Attention Service for Women) offers social, psychological, and legal advice. They can be contacted by calling 667 871 709 or writing to igualtat@castelldefels.org.
Additionally, the Mossos d'Esquadra have a WhatsApp channel (601 00 11 22) to provide information and police advice to victims or potential victims of gender-based violence. This channel does not handle emergencies, which should be reported to 112.
The Castelldefels City Council insists on the need for the involvement of the entire society to eradicate gender-based violence and encourages anyone who suffers or witnesses an assault to use these resources.
