Two officers from the Local Police of Prat de Llobregat saved the life of a one-year-old baby who was choking on a breadstick. The rapid intervention with the Heimlich maneuver was crucial.

A one-year-old baby was on the verge of drowning this past Saturday in Prat de Llobregat, but the swift action of two Local Police officers prevented tragedy. The officers, a corporal and an agent, were on a preventive patrol on Cerdanya Street when a very nervous man stopped them, explaining that his son had choked at home while eating a breadstick.

Upon arriving at the residence, the officers found the child lying on the floor, face up, inert and unable to breathe. Without wasting a second, they began to apply the Heimlich maneuver, adapted for an infant. Thanks to this first aid technique, the little one regained his breathing.

A few minutes later, SEM services arrived, who continued with the resuscitation efforts. The paramedics confirmed that the quick and diligent actions of the officers were key in preventing the child's death.

The baby was transferred to Sant Joan de Déu hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU. There, the piece of bread was removed, and he remained under observation for a few days until he was discharged. The grateful family has publicly thanked the officers for their intervention.

The Local Police of Prat de Llobregat has highlighted the importance of first aid training for its officers, which in this case was decisive in saving a life. The incident underscores the need to know basic techniques like the Heimlich maneuver, which can be crucial in choking situations, especially in young children.

The incident took place in the Cerdanya neighbourhood, a residential area of Prat. Neighbours in the area have expressed their relief at the positive outcome and praised the professionalism of the officers.

The Prat de Llobregat City Council has issued a statement congratulating the officers for their actions and reminding everyone of the importance of prevention and first aid training among the public.
