The Cerdanyola del Vallès City Council has approved the application for the 2026 call of the Pla de Barris from the Generalitat, which foresees a total investment of 10 million euros. The project, titled 'Revitalising Les Fontetes, Quatre Cantons and the area around Avinguda Catalunya', includes the renewal of public spaces, facilities, and energy efficiency measures.
The Cerdanyola del Vallès City Council has given the green light to the application for the 2026 call of the Pla de Barris i Viles from the Generalitat of Catalonia. The project presented, under the name 'Revitalising Les Fontetes, Quatre Cantons and the area around Avinguda Catalunya', aims for a grant of 5,016,056.76 euros, which represents half of an estimated total investment of 10,032,113.52 euros.
The proposal continues from the project presented last year but updates its content and incorporates new actions to meet the current needs of the neighbourhoods and the criteria of the 2026 call. The programme aligns with the Urban Agenda of Cerdanyola del Vallès, aiming to continue advancing the transformation of these areas through actions that combine public space improvement, facility renewal, energy transition, environmental recovery, and strengthening local services.
Among the most notable actions is the renewal of the park on Carrer González, the remodelling of the Quatre Cantons Civic Centre, the modernisation of the Les Fontetes Municipal Market, and the promotion of Ca n'Altimira as a space for innovation and community activity. The project also includes the environmental recovery of the Riu Sec and new initiatives for social and economic dynamisation.
The Pla de Barris call promotes comprehensive projects aimed at reducing social inequalities, combating urban segregation, and addressing the challenges arising from the climate crisis. In this context, Cerdanyola's application advocates for a coordinated intervention that integrates urban, environmental, and social actions to improve the quality of life for residents and move towards more sustainable, cohesive, and resilient neighbourhoods.
If the application secures the requested funding, the project will enable a new phase of transformation in Les Fontetes, Quatre Cantons, and the area around Avinguda Catalunya. The planned actions aim to enhance public space, facilities, and local services while reinforcing the social, educational, and economic opportunities of the city.
The Cerdanyola del Vallès City Council is confident that the proposal will be positively evaluated by the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition, which is the body responsible for resolving the call. The decision will be known in the coming months, and if favourable, the works could begin throughout 2027.
