The Sitges council has given initial approval to the regulations for the municipal nurseries El Cercolet and La Moixiganga, with 13 votes in favour from the governing team, Verds, Guanyem and PSC. Fets per Sitges voted against, while Junts, Vox, PP and the non-affiliated member abstained.
The July council meeting of Sitges Town Hall initially approved the update of the regulations for the municipal nurseries El Cercolet and La Moixiganga. The vote received 13 votes in favour from the governing team (Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya and Sitges Grup Independent), Verds En Comú Podem, Guanyem Sitges and the Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya. Fets per Sitges voted against, while Junts per Sitges, Vox, the Partido Popular and the non-affiliated councillor from El Margalló chose to abstain.
The regulations, which had already been announced in the January council meeting this year with the creation of a study commission, regulate the provision of the public service of municipal nurseries. The document addresses the organisational structure of the centres, the participation of the school community in daily activities, the rules of coexistence, measures to promote coexistence and mediation mechanisms. It also defines minor infractions by students and the establishment of corrective and punitive measures.
The drafting of the text has been the result of joint work between different areas of the Town Hall and the educational community, especially the management teams of the nurseries, who are familiar with the reality and needs of the centres. According to municipal sources, the document adapts to current times without losing sight of the stability and quality of the service provided to children and their families.
Approval of the grant plan and credit modifications
In the same plenary session, the update of the annex of the Strategic Grant Plan 2026-2028 was approved, with the same 13 votes in favour from the governing team, Verds, PSC and Guanyem. Junts, PP, Fets per Sitges and El Margalló voted against, while Vox abstained.
A credit modification of 14,524.85 euros requested by the Department of Social Rights, Citizenship and Equality was also approved to redistribute grants to the Red Cross and Cáritas for the Food Distribution Centre. The proposal was approved with 10 votes in favour (ERC, SGI, Verds and Guanyem), the abstention of Junts, Vox, PP, PSC and El Margalló, and the vote against from Fets per Sitges.
Vox motions rejected
In the motions section, the municipal group of Vox presented two proposals that were rejected. The first requested to enhance the police activity of active crime repression by the Sitges Local Police. The second called for the censure of Mayor Aurora Carbonell and her ERC and Sitges GI government due to the situation in the municipality and the current minority government. Both motions did not succeed.
The new regulations for the nurseries will come into effect after their final approval, presumably in the coming weeks, once any objections that may be presented during the public exposure period are resolved.
